January 1:
Jack declines an offer of Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Year’s Honours list.
January, February:
Hosting a series of concerts at Tiromoana (Jack’s New Zealand summer house) in support of the Gisborne International Music Competition.
February to April:
Visiting distinguished professor at City University of Hong Kong
March 6:
Guest of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa at her birthday celebration at the Royal Opera House, London.
March 28:
First performance of piano concerto by Gareth Farr, commissioned by Jack and to be performed with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in Wellington, with pianist Tony Lee.
March:
Publication of major new work by Jack Richards – Key Issues in Language Teaching – published by Cambridge University Press.
Publication of 3rd edition of Approaches and Methods in Language Teaching – published by Cambridge University Press.
April 6- 14:
Private visit to Bhutan.
May:29-31:
Keynote speaker at conference on teaching of academic writing: City University of Hong Kong.
June:
Touring with Friends of the Canadian Opera Company in Lithuania and Estonia for opera and music performances.
July:
Teaching at the Regional Language Centre, Singapore.
July 10:
Keynote speaker at conference at La Salle University, Manila.
September 17-October 4th:
Touring with Friends of the Art Gallery of New South Wales – Italy and Malta.
September:
Appointment of in-coming composer in Creative New Zealand/Jack C Richards Composer in Residence program at Victoria University, Wellington.
October 10:
Keynote address, TEFLN conference, Solo, Indonesia.
November 17th-24th
Giving a series of lectures and workshops in Iran sponsored by Farhangian Teacher Education University.
