19 year old Auckland pianist Tony Chen is currently studying at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester New York and was also one of the pianists Jack sponsored at Edith Fischer’s Piano Academy in Blonay Switzerland. Both Jack and his master-class teachers in Blonay were struck by his masterful command of a wide and very demanding repertoire and we are happy to introduce him to Gisborne audiences for the first time. Tony’s program consists of sonatas by Beethoven and Schumann, Mozart’s Fantasia, pieces by Albeniz and Ravel as well as Liszt’s masterpiece Après une lecture du Dante.

This concert features two outstanding young opera singers who recently received study awards to participate in master classes in Italy that Jack attended, conducted by maestro Wynn Davies. Joanna is a wonderful lyric soprano, currently based in Berlin, while Harry is an outstanding young tenor completing his studies in Auckland. Their program will feature a variety of operatic gems, supported by Auckland pianist Xing Wang, who has performed several times at Tiromoana and in the Tairawhiti Museum concert series.
