Dr. Richards has written and edited a large number of both
academic books and classroom texts in the area of teaching
English as a second or foreign language. His academic books
are intended for language teachers, teachers in training,
and teacher educators, and are used in teacher training programs
around the world. Many have been translated into other languages.
They seek to provide readable overviews and explorations of
research, theory, and current practice in key areas of applied
linguistics and language teaching. His widely used classroom
texts are noted for their applications of communicative methodology
and their teacher-friendly and student-friendly design.
